Vince fuses the growly voices of Jimmy Saville, Chris Rea and Barry White into a terrifying unholy trinity, and wistfully recalls the nose-biting, toe-nipping harsh winter of 1982 and the smell of his Dad’s single malt whisky as they watched together the Dave Allen Christmas Show late into the night; Neil reprimands Led Zeppelin for not being festive enough, ponders the weighty issue of the generation gap between the Analogues and Millennials, and muses on the currency of shared cultural experiences like the spectacular double-issue Radio Times, Christmas Number Ones, and getting plastered in pubs you otherwise avoided the rest of the year; and Jeremy finally returns from his mysterious sabbatical to immediately compare Johnny Mathis to Kim Jong-Il, Supreme Leader of North Korea from 1994 to 2011, wax lyrical about his childhood Christmases, and lament the melancholy ending of the season as symbolised by the remaining, unwanted and unwrapped hard and chewy golden toffee in the otherwise empty and forlorn Quality Street tin.
And we say goodbye to the old and ring in the new as we look ahead to exciting changes to the show in the coming year.
